Everything I’ve heard that you’ve arranged is so stunning. You’ve got such a beautiful ear for arranging songs that really feel so of this land. They sound so mystical and heartfelt and earthy and oh just gorgeous!

“I cannot recommend Philippa’s choirs highly enough. I love every aspect of the sessions. I get such a sense of joy and belonging from singing the beautiful songs that Philippa teaches us.”
— Lucy, Choir member

Philippa believes making music with your community is a birthright and a joyful act of connection. Philippa is also certain that everyone with a voice can sing and she teaches singing the way she learned it from many wonderful song sharers, folk singers and vocal coaches. Philippa teaches by ear, seeking an emotional and physical connection to the music and using tried and tested practices that help to free the voice. Some of the musicians who have taught and inspired me include Sam Lee, Sarah Owen, Sophia Efthimiou, John Bowker and Bryony Greenhill. Philippa is also a member of the Natural Voice Network.

Philippa enjoys writing her own song arrangements and directs the Birch Tree Folk Choir in Dorking, a choir dedicated to wellbeing, connecting with our land and our ancestors through folk songs. We are currently singing in a glorious woodland location for the summer and will be back indoors in September.

Philippa has also been the musical director of Shakti Sings Choir, a national choir who rehearse in West London and sing, dressed in red, at Stonehenge Solstices, festivals, protests and ceremonial events to honour the earth. Phillipa also ran two Singing Mamas choirs in East Surrey, a Singing for Wellbeing choir at Sutton Women’s Centre and is available for festivals, private events, one-off workshops and ceremonies such as weddings and funerals. Philippa loves to collaborate recently led singing (as well as performing as a storyteller herself) with the Storytelling Choir in the Brighton Fringe Show Rewilding Cinderella.
